NIKKEI NEWsPAPER 日本経済新聞 INTERVIEW

Welcome back everyone!

I decided to start this blogpost with a weird video intro in japanese. Why? - Why not.
However, if you didn't understand this video that's okay! - It's about my writing and some more details of my recent interview with NIKKEI, a nation wide newspaper in Japan. The video is obviously aimed at my japanese audience that might have a few follow-up questions to this weeks part of the interview which focused on me as a writer / novelist. It describes how I got into writing, how I wrote my first book and how I wrote my latest novel which is currently in editing. If you are interested in my writing, don't worry! I will make a follow-up video with the release of the next novel and I will also adress the translation / sequel questions I got in the coming #AskHimezawa video.

Now, enough of the video,
let's talk about the interview!

I was positively suprised when NIKKEI staff approached me via mail, after finding my YouTube channel, asking for an interview about being a foreign talent in Japan.
This corner of the newspaper covers different stories of foreigners briefly, telling the gist of their stories and goals, where they come from and where they want to be.

I feel really lucky and happy about this interview, it was a huge opportunity for me to tell my story and also show people that I have a plan for the future!

The interview released in two parts, in two of the weekly issues that release every monday.

While the first part focused on me as a performer / idol releasing a song and my passion for singing and dancing, the second one was centered around my writing. How and where I write my novels, what I like to write about and what part of the series I am writing on at the moment.

I barely get to talk about my books, and even less on mass media, i.e. newspapers. Most people are taken up by the weird exterior and my road to Japan and have little to no interest in me as an author. The fact that German writers communities and groups are low to non-existent doesn't help.

I am glad I got the chance to talk about the things I am working on and also show Japan that I am not just another pop culture obsessed foreigner, but also a hard-working individual. Sadly since expressing this in japanese culture is a no go, it doesn't really come across - especially when you are forced into this 'humble woman' role that is present in the entertainment industry. As I writer I get to freely express myself, try out new things and be brave, which helped me on stage and as a person as well.
